S

Samantha Quirky movie with the one weirder girl from Goonies. She's adopted and tries to find her real parents but then finds out she was cool all along.
Sandlot, The SOLID kids movie. Fun as shit.
Santa Clause, The Tim Allen at his best. One of the best Christmas movies ever.
Santa Clause 2, The: The Mrs. Clause Meh... Neat to see them four or five years later or whatever but it's like, this woman knows Santa for a day and then agrees to marry him? Even though she's saving Christmas... That's kinda contrived.
Sarah Silverman: Jesus is Magic I didn't laugh as much as I did think "Wow, she's clever." Still, I love cleverness.
Saved! Teen/religion movie. Mandy Moore is hot but a bitch. Kevin McCallister is in this too and he's in a wheel chair but he still kicks ass.
Saving Private Ryan War movie with a great cast is all.
Saving Silverman Great comedy about what happens when these guy's best bud starts dating the queen bitch and they gotta save him. The cast is excellent in this. Funny as hell.
Saw I saw Saw after seeing Saw II and it didn't detract from the experience at all. Wow, this movie surprised the hell outta me, too. Just as good as the sequal. The mind games and shit are really... just interesting and compelling. Had me by my balls the whole way through and really made me think about what kind of choices I'd make if put in a situation similar to the people tested by Jigsaw.
Saw II Wow, this movie surprised the hell outta me. An interesting, yet twisted philosophy, intense suspense and original deaths... Yeah, and NKOTB's Donnie Wahlberg, fuck yeah... Plus that dumb bitch from 7th Heaven plays herself and really died on the set, so cool...
Saw III A decent third installment. It keeps the franchise fresh and delivers the death scenes you expect with lots of twists, etc.
Say Anything Great movie with John Cusack. He's this guy who kicks ass and he's like, am I cool enough to date my dream girl? And then he finds out he is.
Scalps This movie actually gets no score. Yeah, I thought was my lowest but this movie doesn't get a score because it's the worst movie I've ever seen. No redeeming qualities whatsoever.
Scarface If it weren't for Scalps, this movie wouldn't get a score... It's like they creators never saw Godfather but then they did and they were like, let's make Godfather but ruin everything good about it. This movie is TERRIBLE. Total waste of time.
Scary Movie They parody Scream which was a parody already... Guess these guys missed that fact.
Scary Movie 2 Pure shit.
Scary Movie 3 Better than the second one, but... still only a few good laughs.
School of Rock, The Great comedy with some talented kids. Jack Black at his best.
Scooby-Doo Dumb, why make this movie?
Scream Solid horror that makes a great statement about the genre.
Scream 2 Meh... Not much different from the first but worth watching if you liked the first.
Screwed The ending of the trilogy. Watch it if you watched the second.
Scrooged Bill Murray!
Secretary James Spader and Maggie Gyllenhaal are really terrific in this. It's another where it's basically just two people and they play off each other. Kinda felt a bit like Punch-Drunk Love, where this unexpected love forms for two people that otherwise would probably never find a true love. Sounds cheesy but it's not.
Secret of My Success, The Michael J. Fox as a badass. Though, he bangs his aunt in this...
Secret Window Stupid... Johnny Depp's character is just dumb time and time again.
See No Evil, Hear No Evil Well written and amazingly acted. Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor at their best. They continually play up their defects to their full potential and it never gets stupid. I have a man crush on Gene Wilder... I can admit that. Still, lots of laughs.
Senseless David Spade and Marlon Wayans. They are funny, but not as funny as Spade and Farley.
Serendipity Great John Cusack/Kate Beckinsale romantic comedy.
Serenity I'd give the show, Firefly, seven balls. This is a great wrap up to the series but it sorely lacks in the humor department and even short changes the characters. It's all plot and action, but as a finale to a story, the losses are acceptable. It's just a miracle this movie was made. I really hope this isn't the end for Serenity.
Se7en The chemistry between the two leads is great. Great performances. Really bizarre at times but keeps you on the edge of your seat. Who knew murder could be so entertaining? And so meaningful?
Shanghai Noon Like Rush Hour but with white Owen Wilson instead. It's funny.
Shattered Glass Interesting, nicely paced movie about this guy who cheated at writing and whines a lot. Coincidentally, he's played by Hayden Christenson.
Shaun of the Dead Great zombie movie spoof that not only spoofs the genre but is a great zombie movie as well.
She's All That I think the reason I have given this movie such a high score is because I'm a bit nostalgic of the time it came out and also, that image of Rachel Leigh Cook coming down the stairs makes me pine for the perfect girlfriend... And then, I remember that it's genuinely a good movie, albeit a teen comedy...
Shining, The Damn... So many people said this movie was good and it's really dog shit. The whole thing sucks balls... The book has to be better but I may never read it because this movie leaves me with such a bad taste in my mouth.
Shrek Another pile of shit. I heard that Chris Farley was originally going to play Shrek. Then put Sandra Bullock or Natalie Portman in the role of the chick and then it would be great. Mike Myers, with his scottish accent, and Cameron Diaz, post The Mask, just piss me the hell off...
Short Circuit Johnny 5 is a beast.
Short Circuit 2 I can't distiguish them... Maybe I need to rent them again but I probably never will...
Showtime Buddy cop type movie with Eddie Murphy and Robert Deniro... Meh...
Signs Interesting set up, but come on... Aliens aren't gonna research the fact that over like, what... 70% of the planet is made up of a compound that's deadly toxic to them? Contrived.
Simpsons Movie, The Homer says it best at the beginning, we paid to see in theaters what we can see for free at home. It's very true. This movie takes themes from many of the best Simpsons episodes, Homer's a bad father, Lisa finds a kindred spirit, Homer screws up, pollution in Springfield, and puts them together. Except now there are a lot of bad jokes and gags added in. There are some good jokes but most are yawn-inducing and tired. Classic Simpsons nicely balanced jokes and gags and semi-serious tender moments and this movie remembers those tender moments I think but won't sacrifice the jokes and crams it all together. "Boob lady." Not funny. "Spider-Pig." Not funny. "Homer falls through roof." Not funny. Unless you're under ten. There were a lot of kids in the theater when I saw this and they all laughed their butts off.
Sin City This movie is sexy as hell and perhaps the best comic book movie ever made. The stories are awesome and the imagery is perfect. Really showed me how cool noir is.
Singles A miss in a series of home runs from director/writer Cameron Crowe... Disappointing compared to the rest of his body of work.
Sister Act Funnier if I was a house wife or something...
Six Days, Seven Nights Harrison Ford makes the longest stretch of his career as he plays a cocky, tough as nails mercenary pilot who falls in love with a spunky, quick-tempered damsel in distress. I liked it A LOT better the first time when it was called "The Empire Strikes Back."
Sixteen Candles Great John Hughes teen comedy.
Sixth Sense, The This movie was ruined for me by a big mouth friend watching it with me that had already seen it. Still, that little kid pisses me off regardless...
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow Fun adventure that takes it back to the early days of science fiction. That ray gun surprised the hell out of me. Bad ass.
Sky High This movie is eff yoo enn, fun. The cast is terrific, young and old. Dave Foley, you crack me UP! His delivery is so perfect. The powers are sweet, the action is solid. A bit predictable but hey... Sometimes that's not such a terrible thing. Man, there are some good looking girls in this, too.
SLC Punk This movie is all about punks and posers, I guess. Mathew Lillard is great. The story is certainly colorful. Perhaps I'd like it more if I knew more about punk or actually went through a punk phase or something. Still, it's a pretty fun movie. It tells the tale of person who grows up. He learns some hard truths and decides to grow instead of stagnate. I respect that.
Sleeping Beauty Disney cartoon.
Sleepy Hollow Interesting version by Tim Burton. Nicely cast. Nice imagery. Kinda poorly paced though, drags on...
Slither Horrifying, creepy and cool. Lots of really fucked up moments, gore and grossness but under it all there's a strange and tragic love story. Very strange. Fun, though. It must be emphasised that this movie is also very fun.
Slums of Beverly Hills, The Interesting, quirky movie about being a girl in a family of guys, I guess. I can't fully relate to the main character but I think everyone can on some level, growing up akwardly... etc.
Small Soldiers This movie is neat. Who hasn't dreamed of their toys coming to life and playing with them. It's cool as hell. The cast is pretty good, too.
Snatch Fun movie, especially after it gets going.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Disney movie.
So I Married An Axe Murderer Another Mike Myers with that fucking annoying scottish accent... Damn, it ruins a great movie... Still watch it... If you think you can handle it.
Son In Law Pauly Shore in a crappy movie...
Son of the Mask Fun animation, but the story is dumb...
Sound of Music, The Meh, old... But, it inspired the scene in European Vacation so, it's cool...
South Park: Bigger, Longer, Uncut If you like the show, you'll love the movie.
Spaceballs Great spoof of Star Wars and other sci-fi movies. Funny as hell.
Space Jam Fun sports/cartoon movie. Kind of original. When it came out, I thought it was the shit.
Specialist, The Sharon Stone and Sylvester Stallone do an entire scene naked in a shower. Not like a normal shower, like a wide open YMCA shower. It's bizarre. It's like... what are they thinking? They are both completely nude and doing this long dialogue and you gotta think "This must have been strange for them to film."
Speed Great suspence movie, pretty original. Launched Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock.
Speed Racer This movie's bubble-pop electric. Damn. I enjoyed it a lot. If I was still ten, I'd have totally lost my shit for it.
Spider-Man Solid comic book movie, even though Tobi Mcguire makes a kinda weak Peter Parker. Maybe I'm just too used to Ultimate Spidey...
Spider-Man 2 Amazing comic book movie. Super fun, amazing visuals, great fights, great Peter Parker scenes...
Spider-Man 3 I don't care what anyone says! I came out of that theater thinking this was the best of the three and still do! If you're a hater, fuck off! If you liked the first two, you'll like this one.
Spiderwick Chronicles, The A colofully dark children's movie. Fun. All about magic and magical creatures and family, too.
Spinal Tap, This is Hilarious. An instant classic that I finally got around to watching in '06.
Spirited Away Great animated movie. Unique and original. Just a great journey/experience.
Squirm Dumb unless you see it the MST3K way!
Stand By Me Solid movie about growing up. Captures something incredible and bottles it up for an hour and a half...
Stardust
We're going balls out with this score of 7. I LOVED this movie! Everything about it! The cast, the use of special effects, the story, the journey! They haven't made movies like this since the 80s. It's just a good fairy tale/fantasy that doesn't end in a giant, drawn out war between the brave knight and the foul orcish hoard, it's not about a brave man on a journey to save the whole world, it's just about a boy and a star. There are lots of other colorful characters as well and they are part of what makes this movie so great, every where you look there are minor characters that add a lot of humor to this world. I could go on and on but I don't want to spoil anything. Just go see this if you haven't. Period.
Starsky and Hutch Funny movie based on a show I'll never watch. Wilson and Stiller make an excellent team.
Star Trek (2009) A fresh reboot to Star Trek that makes it sexy and cool. Great cast and special effects.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars Adequate. A kid's movie, for sure. Lots to hate but some to love, too.
Star Wars: Episode 1: The Phantom Menace Lots of people give this movie shit, but every time I watch it I like it more and more. Normally when asked what they don't like, people will just say "Jar Jar Binks!" He's only on screen for maybe 10% total screentime... The rest is awesome lightsaber battles, amazing fleets of droids, space battles, Tatooine, the Jedi Council, Natalie Portman, and Anakin Skywalker meeting Obi-Wan Kenobi for the first time. COME ON!
Star Wars: Episode 2: Attack of the Clones Slower paced, but omg, so many moments that make me proud to be a Star Wars nerd. Hayden Christensen makes a terrific Anakin and Natalie Portman gets uber-hot. The fights, the love, the dark side... It's got it all.
Star Wars: Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith A huge part of my life has been leading up to viewing this movie. Ever since seeing the original as a kid on a crappy VHS my mom taped off TV, I've wanted to know everything this movie explains and shows in beautiful splendor. A must-see for nerds and non-nerds alike.
Star Wars: Episode 4: A New Hope The original, classic masterpiece. Started the greatest series of movies of our time, though I get kinda bored during the Death Star run... After seeing the entire series, it feels like the whole Death Star destruction belonged at the end of episode 6 as originally planned.
Star Wars: Episode 5: Empire Strikes Back Not a huge amount of events happen but we get to know the characters so well. The interactions and dialogue are key. Yoda, too.
Star Wars: Episode 6: Return of the Jedi I love the beginning and the end of this movie so much. The ending is so effing perfect and satisfying and I think that scene of Han getting thawed out is one of my favorite in the entire series. Not sure exactly why... I always used to keep the plastic off my action figures so I could trap them in carbonite. Haha...
Stay Alive The scenes where they are actually playing the game together is really interesting, on a nerdy level. There's trash talk and stuff, "newb" is thrown about. Funny. But, near the middle the focus is more on the death scenes and them running from one place to the next and there are these unnecessary flashbacks to the main character's childhood trauma... Not needed. Just make a movie about a game then put them in the fucking game. I don't want to watch them run around wondering what's really going on for fourty five minutes. Also, how the hell did Frankie Muniz come back to life at the end. He just shows up like he didn't die ten minutes earlier and the credits come up... Double-u tee eff, man.
Stealing Harvard Man, this movie should have been so hilarious. Tom Green and Jason Lee, right? Well, no... It kinda sucks...
Stealing Time Movie about dealing with life after college with kind of a dumb ending.
St. Elmo's Fire Solid 80s movie with a terrific cast, the Rat Pack, as they've been called.
Step Brothers Hah, a step in the right direction for Will Farrell. His last several movies I thought blew but this was pretty funny. Hilarious concept. A good ol' time.
Stephen King's It The book is a million times better but this movie has an ample amount of nostalgia packed into it. After reading the book, it seemed like an eternity before I was able to get my hands on the VHS. Plus, I watched it the day before I started high school so there's that extra fun baggage tacked onto it in my memory.
Stephen King's Storm of the Century Slow, painful pacing. The very very end is neat.
Stepmom Chick flick, but enjoyable.
Stick It I really enjoyed this movie. The girls are hot and talented. Bridges is solid. Fun and inspiring.
Stir Crazy An older comedy that is saved by the brilliance of Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor. Especially, Wilder, he's a fucking genius. They both have some great moments. Worth a viewing if you're a fan of either.
Strange Wilderness Funny but... not really funny enough. Maybe I needed to be stoned to get a full appreciation for it.
Stripes Bill Murray and Harold Ramis AND John Candy. Hilarious!
Stuck on You Hah, this movie is funny. It does for conjoined twins what "Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil" did for the deaf and blind.
Suburban Commando Hulk Hogan as a space commando. Interesting once-watcher.
Suicide Club A really weird Japanese movie. I'm laughing out loud just thinking about certain things... It's like a mystery and then there are is like this ball of human skin and Japanese school kids start committing suicide because it's cool and then this really weird guy kidnaps a girl at a bowling alley and he thinks he's a rock star... It's weird but watchable.
Superbad LOL I'm writing this only days after it has hit theaters. I'm forseeing months and months of hearing this movie quoted a lot. It's one of those movies that come around every couple years that everyone sees and everyone likes and everyone talks about. This one will deserve it, hands down. The two main guys, Michael Cera and Jonah Hill have got talent, flat out. Michael Cera was a genius in Arrested Development and Jonah Hill has stolen the spotlight in all the movies he's had a bit part in. Finally they are center stage and it's a laugh a minute. There are lots of dicks in this movie, but it's not just dick jokes. Like both Clerks and Chasing Amy, there is a strong friendship between the friends and there are some... tender moments, I'd say. It's got heart and dicks and laughs. That's it and it's super good.
Superman A decent superhero movie for its time. Reeves is great as Superman and even better as Clark Kent. Not too flashy but still fun.
Superman 2 A nice "Part II." Maintains what was good in the first.
Superman Returns A solid continuation of the older series and a great reopening of the franchise. Everyone is in top form and I'm excited to see more.
Super Mario Bros Dumb. They should make a new one where it's CGI or classically animated and makes sense and, oh, it should be made by someone who has played at least one of the games... yeah...
Supersize Me Interesting look at how Americans, not unlike myself, are getting to be fat asses from eating fatty food, go figure. But, yeah, it's interesting to find out that McDonalds fries don't decompose... Yeah, that was a deleted scene...
Superstar Funny. It's got Will Ferral in it.
Sure Thing, The John Cusack.
Surf Ninjas Haha... This movie sucks. But, it was fun as a kid. It's got Keno in it, too.
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street I fucking LOVED this movie! The songs were stuck in my head for weeks and the characters stuck with me even longer. The cast is great. Johnny Depp can sing. The story has some nice twists. I was completley expecting a happy ending. I thought I saw it coming a mile away but the story shocked me. The end just left me with my mouth open. It is a musical, there seemed to be some confusion about that with some people, so be forwarned. Definitely not your typical musical, though. Give it a shot.
Swing Kids It's like Footloose but in nazi Germany. Christian Bale kicks ass and the lead, you'll remember him from Dead Poets Society, gives a really strong performance. Over the last year, movies in this genre, whether you call them holocaust, WWII or nazi ... or whatever, they've surprised me at how good they are. The characters, the conflicts, the settings... They all work with each other as if the film-makers are all colaborating on an epic retelling of one of the lowest points of humanity but they all show also how that brought out the best and worst in human beings. Swing Kids gives great examples from both sides. Two best friends, fiercely loyal to each other and to swing are turned against each other. The end battle was highly reminiscent of Anakin and Obi-Wan's fight in Revenge of the Sith. Two people who were once brothers forced against each other. In a lot of ways, the story of the holocaust and the story of Palpatine's triumph are very similar and that's probably not a coincidence.
Swordfish Pretty good except a lot of the time you're like "What the fuck?" Halley Berry is entertaining for the second time in her career, after The Flintstones. Is this the real review or is the real review on a plane to Antartica or something? I don't know...
Sybil Watched it in psychology class, so... Yeah... Interesting and messed up.
